Cutler & Gross

Last month Cutler & Gross asked us to help them with their new e-commerce site. They had chosen Prestashop for their platform and we were bought into to fix a rough installation. Initially we focused on tightening up the front end design to fit with their main site and adapting the site to look as good on a mobile as it does on the desktop.

This was a our first major install using Prestashop and it seems to have some nice features out of the box.  The store is configured to use an alternative price list for the US and Canada and displays the dollar currency based on the visitors IP address.

Plum’s the Word

New socially orientated website for organic baby food producer

We are extremely proud to announce the birth of Plum Baby’s new website. Plum are pioneers in providing new parents with the best start possible for their children.

At the start of the year Plum began the process of re-branding their products and felt the old website needed to reflect this.

Devstars were tasked with managing the process through planning, design and building of a fully content managed site and store that encourages link sharing through upgraded social channels.

Plum Baby website - homepage

To allow the site the greatest flexibility we chose two open-source platforms, WordPress for the site and Magento for the store. The wordpress updates RSS streams, allowing the content to flow from specific categories to specific channels. As part of the process we updated Plum’s Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr accounts to receive the specific update relevant to the channel.

Plum Baby Store

The Magento site features a whole host of tools that allow us to fine tune the shopping experience and optimise sales and customer retention. This includes product specific offers, cart driven offers and voucher codes set up for the launch of the store. We are also currently developing QR codes to add to the marketing portfolio.

We wish Plum the greatest success with this new marketing tool and look forward to creating some award winning campaigns together.

‘Share This’ but make it good.

Sharing is for scale, not virality

As new studies from share this show, sharing is now accounting for 10% of all internet traffic. It is big but then there is no surprise there. The graphic shows that the vast majority of sharing is done via Facebook, again, no surprises here either. BUT with only 4.9 clicks per shared link, it is not a viral as you thought. Links are less likely clicked outside of the users’ immediate network so think about large groups of people. 80% of people only share one category of content (business, politics, entertainment etc), this suggests people are influential on limited topics that are important enough to them.

The motivation needed to push your customers to click the button is down to the content you provide them with. Some great suggestions from Dan Bosomworth @SmartInsights are below

It’s not about the tools – though tools like ShareThis, AddThis and the big enterprise software Gigya are all extremely important for success, so make sure they’re contained on web pages and emails and then focus on content
The content has to be great – there is no such thing as a “great viral”, viral is the effect of brilliant content – entertaining, valuable, insightful or newsworthy
Solve problems – buyers (B2C and B2B) are doing more research than ever online – recognise their needs over your need to ‘go viral’, help them make decisions relating to your product
Entertain – we all enjoy a laugh now and then, think about inspiring, educating and entertaining where you can

May favourite blog is BikeSnobNYC, not much to do with cycling but funny and if he told me to put my hand in the fire, I would probably give it a go!
