It’s a mobile future – make sure you’re ready for it!

What we refer to as the ‘post-PC era’ is rapidly gaining pace according to a raft of recent statistics. For those of you baffled by this term, the post-PC era is defined as the trend of declining traditional PC sales in favour of mobile devices such as Smartphones and tablets.

You might think such an event is something for the future, but actually, according to VC firm KBPC, global PC shipments were overtaken by Smartphone and tablet shipments back in Q4 2010.

It is also predicted that the global installed base of PCs will fall behind Smartphones and tablets by Q2 this year.

Interestingly, according to MIT, the uptake of smartphones is growing faster than any previous technology in human history – from 5% to 40% in 4 years!

Is your website mobile-ready?

As a user of mobile technology you will have no issue with this, but as a business owner who needs to promote your goods and services over the Internet, have you considered the implications for your online promotion strategy?

In particular, your website which was designed a few years ago, may look great on a 15-inch laptop, but what does it look like on 4-inch Smartphone screen?

Do all the key messages appear on the screen when the page loads, or does your potential customer have to scroll down or across to see what you are offering? Do the menus still work or are they obscured?

Responsive websites are the future

The fact is, you now have to ensure that your website has been designed and coded to cope with the post-PC era. It must be mobile-ready.

Your website needs to adapt to whatever device it is being viewed on, ensuring that all key messages and navigational items are displayed to their best advantage.

This is something Devstars understands. We are already building responsive websites such as Forma House which displays perfectly on mobile devices. So, make sure you’re ready for a mobile future and have another look at your website – on a mobile device.
