Stuart WatkinsWhen off-the-shelf doesn’t cut it, we build what doesn’t exist yet.
Most agencies will sell you a template, bolt on some plugins, and call it bespoke. We’ve been crafting genuinely bespoke web software development for over 20 years, and there’s a pretty big difference.
We’ve built queue-timing platforms for major airports, secure research tools for government defence, and global intelligence systems used by thousands of business travellers. Each one started with a problem that couldn’t be solved by anything already on the market.
That’s where we come in.

We design and build custom web software development solutions from the ground up — applications, platforms, and systems built entirely to your specification. No templates. No “almost fits.” If your requirements don’t match what’s already out there, we engineer something that does.
If it involves data, users, and a browser, we’ve probably built something like it.
We’ve worked with some pretty big names over the years. Here are four projects that show what bespoke web software development looks like when the stakes are high.
Heathrow needed a way to monitor and manage passenger queue times across one of the world’s busiest airports. Not a dashboard pulled from an existing product. A purpose-built platform that could handle the complexity of live data, multiple terminal locations, and real-time reporting.
We built a custom queue-timing system that gave Heathrow’s operations team the visibility they needed to manage passenger flow and improve the terminal experience. The kind of project where reliability isn’t optional, it’s everything.
What this shows: We build systems where downtime isn’t an option and the data has to be right, every time.
The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory needed a research database for evaluating XRVR technologies. This wasn’t a project you could build on WordPress and hope would work out. It required robust security architecture, controlled access, and a system designed to handle sensitive research data.
We delivered a secure, purpose-built platform that met defence-grade requirements whilst remaining practical and usable for the research teams working with it daily.
What this shows: We understand how to build for environments where security and compliance aren’t nice-to-haves. They’re the whole point.
G4S, one of the world’s largest security companies, needed a system to help business travellers navigate security risks and hotspots around the world. We built a global intelligence platform that aggregated threat data, regional assessments, and real-time alerts into a single, accessible interface.
The platform evolved into a subscription-only service, giving G4S a recurring revenue stream built on software we designed and developed from scratch.
What this shows: We don’t just build tools. We build products. This project went from internal requirement to commercial subscription platform, and that transition was baked into the architecture from the start.
The UK’s first salary-sacrifice e-bike subscription platform. Complex multi-vendor storefront, employer onboarding flows, real-time inventory management, and the ability to handle 1,000+ brands. We took it from concept to live delivery in less than a month.
What this shows: Speed and complexity aren’t mutually exclusive. When the architecture is right, you can move fast without cutting corners.
Our web software development process has been refined over two decades. It’s not complicated, but it is thorough.
If you need web software development that actually fits your business, let’s have a straight conversation about what you’re trying to achieve and whether we’re the right team to help.

We’ll ask about your business problem, your timeline, and your budget. If we’re not the right fit, we’ll tell you. If we are, we’ll show you how we’d approach it.
Devstars has been delivering bespoke web software development since 2003. Our core team has worked together for over 20 years, delivering bespoke solutions for organisations from funded start-ups to FTSE-listed enterprises. We solve complex problems with creative, planet-friendly digital solutions.
We’re not the cheapest option, and we’re not trying to be. Our development projects start at £15k and typically range from £25k to £80k, depending on complexity.
This works well if:
If that sounds like your situation, we should talk.
Tell me what you’re trying to fix. Half an hour, no pitch, no slide deck.
If we’re the right fit we’ll talk about what’s next. If we’re not, I’ll point you to someone who is.
